How to create a beautiful designer terrace?

  • Design

Summer is just around the corner, and if you are lucky enough to have a terrace, you will be able to enjoy it fully at any time of day. Once neglected, the health crisis reminded us of the importance of having an outdoor space for morale. And when the terrace is decorated with designer pieces, it becomes a true living space in your house or apartment. However, please note that you cannot furnish it like an indoor room: weather conditions and the effects of the sun could indeed damage the furniture or décor of your designer terrace.

Through this article, as specialists in designer furniture on the French Riviera, we will share all our tips for creating a beautiful terrace.

Create a relaxation area on your designer terrace

A terrace is an excellent place to relax, perhaps the best room in your apartment or house because you are outside, away from the noises of your home, such as a television left on. In the evening after an intense day at work, or at the weekend during the day, to enjoy your day off—whatever the time. Whether it is to read, listen to music, talk with family or friends, or enjoy an aperitif, it is essential to have a relaxation area on your terrace.

To create this relaxation area and achieve a beautiful designer terrace, depending on the size of your terrace, this could take the form of a two-person seating area with two folding armchairs (and therefore easy to store to optimise space). If you have a larger terrace, at least 20 m², you can opt for a designer garden lounge set, made up for example of several Carlotta armchairs by Cassina available at Jbonet.

Create an outdoor dining area

Relaxing, certainly, but also living. Your designer terrace must be a living space where you will spend enjoyable moments. What could be better than having breakfast outside to start the day well? Is it not pleasant to have lunch outdoors, during the week or at the weekend, under a parasol (or an awning) to protect yourself from the sun’s effects? Taking your time at the weekend for lunch, or having dinner in the evening when it is cooler.

To do this, it will be important to set up a beautiful dining area, as it will be the main feature of your designer terrace. Between the outdoor dining table and the chairs (or armchairs depending on the space available), these are the pieces of furniture that will take up the most room. Of course, your choice of furniture must be perfectly consistent with the rest of the furniture in your indoor space.

We particularly recommend the LC6 designer outdoor table designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, published by Cassina and available at Jbonet.

Our other tips for creating a beautiful designer terrace

If you have a terrace large enough to create a relaxation area and a dining area, we recommend clearly separating the spaces, so that they are easy to visualise and remain cohesive. This will help you avoid giving your designer terrace a cluttered feel. To do so, you can play with décor by using different colours between the two areas or, if you like monochrome, place outdoor rugs on the floor.

Likewise, avoid placing the different elements of your terrace too close together, so that it does not look overcrowded. You should have enough space to move around freely.

Finally, do not forget lighting. In the evening, a beautifully lit terrace will make you want to spend time there. Do not use lighting that is too bright; it should feel welcoming. Feel free to install several soft light sources in different areas of the terrace.
