Iconic Design Desk: The Cavour Desk by Zanotta

  • Non classé

At this time of year, you are most likely looking for a work desk. The health situation we have been experiencing for many months has indeed transformed the way we work, with a phenomenon that has gained considerable momentum: remote work. While we always enjoy reconnecting with our colleagues at the office, spending a few days a week working from home, without the inconvenience of commuting, has brought a certain level of comfort. Working from home is one thing; properly setting up your workspace is another. Of considerable importance, having a beautiful desk, being comfortably seated, and having the necessary equipment are all points to consider to ensure that the workday at home goes as smoothly as possible.

And when it comes to the desk, space and design are essential elements to consider. A design desk that fulfills both of these conditions today is the Cavour desk by Zanotta.

The Cavour Desk by Zanotta is a tribute to the Italian architect, designer, and photographer Carlo Mollino

He is notably known for this beautiful phrase: “Everything is permissible as long as it is fantastic.” A maxim that perfectly reflects our vision of design. Although he is better known for his work as an architect, with notable designs including the INA-Casa district in Turin, the Palazzo del Lavoro, the Camera di Commercio building, and the Teatro Regio, all also in Turin, Carlo Mollino distinguished himself in design through his Reale table and his oak and glass table from Casa Orengo designed in 1949, one piece of which sold at auction for $3,824,000. His style as a designer is easily recognizable, characterized notably by his thick glass tops and bases that are both rigid and curved. A characteristic also found in his architecture—naturally, you might say—Carlo Mollino was accustomed to designing pieces to furnish his architectural projects.

A Unique Design

But let us return to the Cavour design desk by Zanotta. A desk that is ultimately a logical continuation of the Reale table, from which it takes many elements, adapted to the office environment. This desk features a glass top so characteristic of Carlo Mollino’s work, available in transparent or extra-clear glass, or gray smoked glass depending on the variations. Its legs in natural solid oak or black-stained oak, or solid canaletto walnut, part of which is curved in tribute to the curves of the women he so loved to photograph, give it a certain dynamism, refinement, elegance, and great modernity that can adapt to both classic and contemporary environments. Its fine lines are balanced by the volumes of the storage compartment found on each side of the Cavour design desk.
